Watch For Us, We Watch For You

What Can I Do?

A dozen things to do:

#1  Stay alert, concentrate on your driving and your surroundings.

# 2 Avoid distractions, such as talking on cell phones, putting on make-up, reading, shaving, playing video games, watching movies, messing with the radio or disc player, eating and drinking while trying to drive.

#3 Do not drink alcohol or use drugs and drive. If you choose to drink alcohol, please, have a designated driver.

#4 Take time to STOP at stop signs and traffic lights. Take at least 3 seconds to look both ways and back again to allow your eyes time to focus on what you are seeing so that you will "see" what is coming.

#5 Look for traffic coming from other directions that may not be going to honor your right-of-way.

#6 Always use brake lights and turn signals to alert other motorists of your plans.

#7 Check your mirrors and always look over your shoulder when changing lanes. Do not depend 100% on mirrors, a semi-truck can be hidden in your blind spot.

#8 Do not drift into other lanes, especially when going around curves.  If your tires are on the center line, you may have six to eighteen inches or more of bumper, fender, and mirrors projecting into the other lane.

#9 Follow a 3 to 4 second rule when following another vehicle. Remember smaller vehicles such as small cars and motorcycles stop faster than larger vehicles (remember "inertia" from science class?). DO NOT TAILGATE!

#10 Obey speed limits, even when passing.

#11  Stay alert to your surroundings. A child may not be looking and step or ride into the road. If you are watching, you may be able to avoid a tragedy.

#12 Respect the rights of others sharing our roads!

Drive responsibly.

The life you save may be yours or your loved one's.
